Young Spiritual Warrior 2002

This year’s boy’s camp or Young Spiritual Warrior Camp was exceptional. 15 boys, a number never reached before, got to know how to work as a team, managed to keep their environment neat and clean and learned how to be courageous in various challenges.

The hike to the campout had a lot of fallen trees from the last storm on the way. While winding our way through it, small Dylan slipped through with great ease and went way ahead of the small group he was in. Suddenly while coming a bit off the single track, they realized that he was missing, especially since he was a bit lagging behind before, we were sure he was left behind. For 2 hour we searched going back and forth until one of us decided to check if he had gone ahead. It was a half hour jog to catch up to the main group. There he was sure enough. Jogging back and waiting for the party to come together took another hour. These kind of incidents make it always more interesting.

The final challenge replayed a fantasy game, a mixture of Lord of the rings, local history and actual events. 3 teams were trying to solve a riddle by finding 7 clues on a 9 mile hike. Each team had a ring they were not to loose; Some enemies were trying to get them...a chase began after the rings were taken...precious...precious;

All was rounded up by 5 very beautiful skits at the closing ceremony and off went 15 adventurers towards their local challenges at home;

This concludes 10 years of boys camps at the Quest Center thanks to Dada Suprakash, Dada Shuddhatmananda, Dada Ramapremananda and of course our first full-time counselor, Vimal.

Here some of the comments of the boys:

I learned how to conquer my fears and to always work hard.

I learned that to be a warrior, you have to be very disciplined.

I learned that reading a map is hard (topographic)

I learned how to blend with my surroundings

I learned to overcome my fear of heights at the ropes course

Never trust your enemies!

Hard work pays off

Teamwork is more useful than individual work

I learned not to steal, not to lie and the other rules...
